Day 1: Our Journey Begins
We’ll depart our scheduled pick-up locations before flying out of Chicago.
Day 2: Welcome to Rome
Welcome to Italy! Meet your Globus Tour Director at the airport. Transfer to your hotel. Welcome Dinner this evening at local restaurant.
Day 3: Rome
The "Eternal City" is steeped in history, vibrantly alive and exciting, and absolutely unique! Start the day with a locally guided introduction to Rome's landmarks from St. Peter's Square. Enjoy a drive along the iconic landmarks of the city: the Tiber River, the Caius Cestius Pyramid, the Aurelian Walls, and the Caracalla Baths. Complete the experience with a walk back in time from the Circus Maximus to the Arch of Constantine and to the fascinating Colosseum, symbol of the Roman Empire. Includes entrance and guided tour of Colosseum and Forums. Visit the treasures of the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel.
Day 4: Rome – Pisa – Florence
Vistas of rolling hills, cypress trees, vineyards, olive groves, and rural villages form the backdrop of your journey through beautiful Tuscany. Stop in Pisa and enjoy a mini-train ride to see the Square of Miracles and the amazing Leaning Tower. End the day by joining the astronomy Experience in a typical Italian restaurant.
Day 5: Florence
Today, discover the wonders of Florence, starting with a guided walking tour, featuring some of the city's greatest attractions. See Piazza Santa Croce; world-famous Signoria Square; 13th century Palazzo Vecchio with its collection of artistic masterpieces; Loggia dei Lanzi; the unique Duomo with Giotto's Gothic Bell Tower and the Baptistry's ornate bronze door known as the "Gate of Paradise."
Day 6: Florence – Verona – Venice Area
Travel north and cross the Po River to Verona, setting for Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. Marvel at the ancient Roman Arena, built for gladiator fights but now still used as a popular venue for the festivals and concerts; shop in Via Mazzini, or just wander the cobblestone streets of the city center.
Day 7: Venice
Venice is a place of unmatched beauty and a feast of fantastic sights. View the delightful crisscrossing canals, the gondolas, arched bridges, palaces, and piazzas. Your orientation features a boat ride to St. Mark's Square and a visit to a Venetian glassblowing workshop. No visit to Venice is complete without the quintessential ride on a Venetian gondola, and this memorable excursion is the perfect way to make the most of your time in Venice. Climb aboard a traditional gondola, the city's primary mode of transportation for centuries, and relax as a skilled gondolier serenades you with heart-wrenching Italian ballads. You'll glide along the labyrinth of watery byways past the famous monuments and landmarks, as well as along the Grand Canal, the "Finest Street in the World".
Day 8: Venice Area – Ancona (Embarkation) – Overnight Ferry Crossing to Patras, Greece
Travel across the flatlands of the Po Delta to reach Ancona on the shores of the Adriatic Sea, to embark on the ferry for the crossing to Patras, Greece. Accommodation will be in two-berth cabins with private shower and toilet.
Day 9: Patras (Disembarkation) – Olympia
During the crossing, enjoy the ship's amenities. Disembark in Patras and drive south into the Peloponnese to Olympia.
Day 10: Olympia – Nauplia
Step into antiquity on this captivating, guided visit of the Olympia Archaeological Site, birthplace of the ancient Olympic Games. Led by an expert guide, marvel at the ruins of monumental city gates, the gymnasium, villas, public baths, the stadium, and the Temple of Zeus, which once housed the gold and ivory statue of Zeus, considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World before it was destroyed by fire. Olympia is also home to one of the oldest temples in Greece, the Temple of Hera, whose altar is where the Olympic Flame is lit for today's modern Olympic Games. You also have time to visit the archaeological museum to admire its many priceless exhibits, including a unique statue of Hermes and the legendary helmet of General Miltiades from the Battle of Marathon in 490 BC.
Day 11: Nauplia – Mycenae – Athens
Morning visit with a Local Guide to the impressive ruins of Mycenae, an ancient city of Homer's epics. Later, stop to view the Corinth Canal, built between 1881 and 1893.
Day 12: Athens
This morning's sightseeing tour of Athens includes featured highlights of the ancient capital and a visit to the Acropolis. Free time this afternoon to explore at your leisure. Tonight's Farewell dinner is special. Enjoy the lively atmosphere of the tavernas in the old Plaka district with its narrow streets and sound of bouzouki music.
Day 13: Depart Athens and Journey Home
This morning after breakfast we depart for the Athens Airport to head home, full of amazing memories of Italy and Greece!

Flights, transportation to and from the airport, tour director gratuities for Globus and Timi’s Tours directors, overnight accommodations, 22 meals, and tours as described are included.
