Day 1 – March 1st: Your journey begins with a motorcoach transfer to Chicago where you will overnight near the Chicago O’Hare International Airport in preparation for your flight to Alaska tomorrow.
Day 2- March 2nd - Anchorage (D):
Catch your flight to Anchorage today. Upon arrival into Anchorage, Timi’s Tours guests will be welcomed and transferred to the Lakefront Hotel in Anchorage, home of the Iditarod. Dinner will be included this evening. Relax and enjoy the winter setting and bustle as several mushers, dogs and families are around the hotel.
Day 3 – March 3rd - Anchorage (B,L,D): Today is the guests day to spend at their leisure. Activities such as the Knik Glacier flight, brewery tour, Mount Alyeska skiing and photographer tour will be available for guests to choose from. This evening, guests visit the infamous Musher’s Banquet which is deemed the official start of the Iditarod activities. Have a chance to meet the musher’s and witness the draw process for placement.
Day 4 – March 4th - Anchorage (B,L,D): After breakfast, continue to Palmer for a tour of the Musk Ox farm to witness these prehistoric animals and learn about Alaska’s ongoing domestication project. Follow this some time at the Iditarod Headquarters. Later this afternoon, return to Anchorage for a cocktail reception where musher Mike Santos will conduct a question and answer session on preparing for the Iditarod Race.
Day 5 – March 5th - Ceremonial Iditarod Start and Talkeetna (B,L,D): Attend the ceremonial start of the Iditarod in downtown Anchorage where are free to walk among the teams and find your favorite musher. You have plenty of time to view the dog teams before the 10am ceremonial start. Later, journey to Talkeetna, your home for the next two evenings. Enjoy dinner at the Denali Brewing Company before a private presentation by Mr. Frank Stelges. Frank is a well-respected photographer of the aurora and he will share his tips on how to properly set up your camera to be able to capture the northern lights. Weather and lights permitting, you will have a chance to experience this first hand outside the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge.
Day 6 – March 6th - Iditarod Restart and Talkeetna (B,L,D): It’s brunch at the historic Talkeetna Roadhouse before traveling to Willow to witness the official start of the Iditarod. Return to Talkeetna for free time before journeying back to Talkeetna for a dinner at the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge. Relax and enjoy the evening at your leisure.
Day 7 – March 7th - Fairbanks (B,L,D): This morning depart Talkeetna and head north to Fairbanks. Enjoy lunch in route before arriving Fairbanks and Sophie Station, your home for tonight. After dinner at the hotel, guests will have the elected option to travel outside of the Fairbanks lights to Aurora Pointe for some northern lights viewing, hot chocolate and great company.
Day 8 – March 8th - Fairbanks and Borealis Base Camp (B,L,D): This morning depart Sophie Station for two nights in your own private domes, sleeping under the northern lights. This day first starts with breakfast the hotel before departing for time at a John Hall’s Alaska exclusive, Trail Breaker Kennel for some one on one time with dog mushing rides and mushers themselves. Arrive at Borealis Base Camp in time for a welcome and luxurious dinner. Prepare to snuggle into the beautiful accommodations.
Day 9 – March 9th - Borealis Base Camp Activities (B,L,D): Relax and enjoy your day at the property and outdoors. Today, breakfast, lunch and dinner are all held in the main building. Guests will have time to add additional activities to fill the day or choose to relax. Make sure to stay up late for another perfect Aurora viewing experience.
Day 10 – March 10th - Fairbanks (B,L,D): Enjoy a relaxing morning and departure from Borealis Base Camp. Lunch awaits and the Cookie Jar in Fairbanks before catching your flight for the journey home.
