Join Timi’s Tours as we head to Omaha, Nebraska for a unique & festive cultural holiday experience! After we check into our hotel, our first evening will feature ‘Christmas in Germany’ at the German American Society Center. There will be traditional German holiday music performed by a men’s choir, dancers performing routines from various regions of the country, delicious food, and even a Christmas Market where you can shop for crafts and other gifts.
The following day, we’ll tour Omaha City with a local step-on guide, highlighting the Gold Coast District, Lewis & Clark Landing, St. Cecilia’s Spanish Cathedral, and much more. We’ll also visit Pioneer Courage Park, featuring more than 100 larger-than-life sized bronze sculptures. After our tour, you’ll enjoy time to shop and dine in the historic Old Market District, featuring cobblestone streets lined with unique boutiques, art galleries, antique emporiums, sweet shops, and more than 30 locally owned restaurants. Horse drawn carriage rides and street musicians add to the turn-of-the-century charm of the area. While there, don’t miss Hollywood Candy with its large collection of retro antiques and nostalgic candy or the Tannenbaum Christmas shop!
After lunch, we’ll be transported to Scotland with a visit to the historic 30-room stone mansion that is Joslyn Castle. Entering through the huge front doors, we’ll hear the fascinating story of George & Sarah Joslyn while surrounded by the elaborate craftsmanship of the wood interior that comes from around the globe.
Next up is a visit to Lithuania through the eyes of the owners of Omaha’s Lithuanian Bakery, the Mackevicius family. They’ll share with you how they escaped Germany in WWII and started their bakery in Omaha. You’ll taste their famous breads and enjoy their signature dessert which takes three days to make! Later, it’s time for Christmas in Old England at The Madrigal Christmasse Feaste. Madrigal singers perform on stage and around the tables as you meet the Queen’s court and the playful jester. This unique form of dinner theatre transports you to the Renaissance era for a festive evening at an old English castle. From the rousing wassail toast to the last bite of Yorkshire pudding, you will be enchanted and filled with the spirit of Christmas!
The following day, we begin with Christmas in the Ukraine, via a morning presentation by Olesia Reprichowskyj. Over pastries and coffee, she’ll share with us Ukrainian Christmas traditions, various linens that have historical significance to her culture, and much more. Then, we’ll head to the Polish home for an authentic lunch and special dance presentation prepared by the Polish Heritage Society of Nebraska. Afterwards, we’ll tour the Holiday Poinsettia Show at the Lauritzen Gardens of the Omaha Botanical Center. Featuring hundreds of the plant, the showstopper is a tree consisting of 700 poinsettias!
Later, you’ll experience a taste of Ireland at the Brazen Head Irish Pub where you’ll feast on a traditional Irish “boxty”, while enjoying a performance by an Irish folk singer. The moment you walk into this establishment, you’ll feel it’s Irish roots, complete with woodwork imported from a pub in Ireland. Afterwards, we’ll journey to the Omaha Community Playhouse for a performance of “A Christmas Carol”. For over 35 years, they’ve presented this professional production of Dicken’s classic tale.
The morning of Day 4, we’ll visit Father Flanagan’s Boys Town, decorated for the holidays according to Irish Christmas Holiday traditions. We’ll tour the Father Flanagan House, the hall of history, and enjoy a guided driving tour of this amazing non-profit organization. Afterwards, we’ll head back to the Old Market District so you have more time to explore and enjoy lunch at your leisure. Then, it’s on to The Durham Museum at historic Omaha Union Station where “beautiful architecture blends with memories of a time gone by”. Staring a massive Christmas tree in the stunning main hall, you’ll also see a collection of beautiful trees featuring the heritage and traditions from a variety of cultures. The museum explores not only the history of the region but also hosts a broad-range of traveling exhibits through their affiliation with the Smithsonian Institution!
Afterwards, we’ll visit The Tea Smith, for a presentation of winter seasonal and holiday delights by a professional tea master. You’ll learn about blending, flavoring, and serving ideas as you sample a variety of teas and then enjoy time to shop their extensive selection. For our final evening, we’ll be transported to “Christmas in Greece” at St. John’s Greek Orthodox Church. We’ll tour the beautiful Byzantine Style building before partaking in a delicious, authentic Greek meal set to a holiday program complete with Greek Christmas Carols.
