Day 1: We depart Illinois and spend the evening at a brand-new Fairfield Inn by Marriott in Chillicothe, Ohio.
Day 2: We arrive in Virginia to spend three nights in Virginia Beach with accommodations at the Sheraton Virginia Beach Oceanfront Hotel! This beautiful location offers direct access to the beach, as well as both a beach front pool and heated indoor pool. You can pamper yourself and “cool off with drinks on the boardwalk at Cabanas Seaside Bar & Grill, or savor sharing plates, cocktails and oceanfront views at the hotel's contemporary Fusion Restaurant & Lounge.” Each evening we spend in Virginia Beach will include free time to shop, dine, and explore all that Virginia Beach has to offer.
Day 3: Today, we’ll visit Cape Henry Lighthouse and then board the Spirit of Norfolk for a two-hour luncheon cruise along the Elizabeth River, featuring spectacular views of the Navy’s Atlantic Fleet. Spend the evening with free time to use as you wish.
Day 4: We visit Nauticus, a nautical-themed science center and museum for an included self-guided tour where we’ll explore the depths of the Navy’s last battleship, the USS Wisconsin. “The Battleship Wisconsin is a city at sea” with a storied American history that we are happy to share with you on our journey.
Day 5: Welcome to the Outer Banks! A step-on guide will accompany us for a tour from Nags Head down to the Cape Hatteras Nation Seashore before we check into our accommodations. We’ll spend three nights at the Hilton Garden Inn- Outer Banks/Kittyhawk. Kittyhawk is the premier destination for anyone visiting the Outer Banks and for our guests, we offer only the best. Every room here features a private balcony, and your onsite accommodations include the Garden Grille & Bar, indoor and outdoor pools, fitness room and video arcade.
Day 6: Today we’ll ride in open-air Humvees over the dunes to see the wild horses that inhabit the islands during our Wild Horse Adventure Tour! Our group will enjoy an included dinner tonight.
Day 7: Experience the birth of aviation at the Wright Brothers National Memorial, a part of the National Parks Service. “Wind, sand, and a dream of flight brought Wilbur and Orville Wright to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina where, after four years of scientific experimentation, they achieved the first successful airplane flights on December 17, 1903. With courage and perseverance, these self-taught engineers relied on teamwork and application of the scientific process. What they achieved changed our world forever.” Your evening provides free time to spend as you wish.
Day 8: We begin our journey home, spending the evening in Charleston, West Virginia.
Day 9: We arrive home, with beautiful memories of Virginia Beach and the Outer Banks of North Carolina!
